Wii Games 2009: Still on Top
The game sales numbers for the first half of 2009 are out, and Wii games still lead the way.

The top three Wii games in 2009 beat anything Xbox or PS3 have to offer by a wide margin. Wii Fit led the way in the first half with 3 million units sold, followed by Wii Play at 1.5 million and Mario Kart Wii at 1.4 million. Resident Evil was the top Xbox seller in the first half, at 1.0 million. Killzone was the top PS3 seller, at 0.75 million.
An interesting difference in the sales of the Big Three companies was that only one of the Wii’s top five sellers in the first half (#4 seller EA Sports Active) was released in 2009, while all five of PS3’s top five and four of Xbox’s top five were released in 2009. This contradicts the critics’ previous notions that the Wii wouldn’t be able to generate “evergreen” sellers that age well and sell over a long period of time.

An interesting thing here is that the #14 and #18 sellers hadn’t even been released yet. Madden NFL 10 was due to be released on August 14, and Metroid Prime on August 24. Apparently a lot of people can’t wait for them, ordering ahead of time.
